Campfire - Solaris

Subtle differences in 1-2K means the bass remains the same. I have no problem with midrange of OG so I guess I'll keep it.
P.S. I'm not a fan of the new faceplate anyway

I think you were clear enough, it was more about me being dead tired when I read it.

If you get a chance to run such an experiment again, please try the multiple recordings approach I described above.

I’ll maybe try it in my holidays. It takes a lot of time

I think I might bite the bullet and pre-order this.

I thought you were looking for a different sound. What exactly makes you think you're getting that? Or is it just because you can easily return them, so why not?

They said they're using a new material which has allowed them to refine the acoustic chamber and the sound, particularly in the midrange. Further, early reports from those who heard it suggest slightly more impact (texture?) in the mid-bass which I think would be consistent with the claim that there isn't more bass per se, just a refinement. They said similar things about the Andro-S (subtle refinements due to change in material) and that one wound up being many/most people's favorite. All of this adds up to something I'm very curious to hear...at the very least I could flip it right away for a nominal loss. All part of the hobby.

If they ever release a custom version of the Solaris I'll seriously consider sinking money into them.

Now that Solstice is out, this could be an interesting endeavour indeed :D

The Andro S had a different BA for the midrange, and was advertised by CA as having more forward mids as a result. @KB even posted FR graphs showing the differences. This was later confirmed by @crinacle with (close enough) independent measurements. And also by me with my ears, lol. :)

All I'm saying is don't get your hopes up that the change for the Solaris will be as significant, since it's not advertised as such.

The starry background versus the white background was making me cross eyed. So i made a contrasting set of pictures for my poor old eyes.

Ok. Staap! Enough Sunday fun!

Curious to hear more again from @Hellraiser86 what he can recall about the sound. (I should just really do a name search in the thread - lazy Sunday...).

I’ve ordered the SE and should get them mid December. Till then I can just repeat my former words. The guys (incl. me) which heard the new edition were all excited about the sound. Most of them had the „old“ Solaris too.
My first impression within the time I had (maybe 30 minutes) was very confusing because I couldn’t hear a difference. After some song scipping I recognised something. There was a difference but hard to define.
So I searched for my typical reference tracks from Dire Strait, Eagles and some Techno Tracks and then it got more clear.
I heard a harder hitting low end, just a tiny bit especially with Techno. I wouldn’t say the low frequencies were more in quantity but more punch. Besides of that I heard a subtle increase in staging depth. The other guests confirmed my experience later that day. More or less pronounced though.
There was one guy talking about some differences in the highs too but I couldn’t test it any more at this time. And to honest after I heard the effect in the low end I was constantly listening to electronic music with more focus on the lower regions.
To sum it up. The differences were really small and I love the Solaris sound. It is for me 95% what I ever wanted. The last 5% or maybe less, were for me a slight harder hit in the low frequencies.
Yes the price increase is really hard for that tiny bit. If you look at it just by that it isn’t worth it (in my opinion). But if you can afford it I would at least recommend listening.
