Campfire - Solaris
Jan 25, 2019 at 9:56 AM Post #3,286 of 12,035
Well I live in Iran and thanks to the US sanctions and crazy inflation, Solaris costs about 7-9 months of my full salary :frowning2: So I saved about a year for this and I'm still hesitant to pull the trigger.
The Solaris in not worth half a year of anyone's life. But if you think it will bring you that much joy, go for it.

That's a lot. But yeah, I think we only live once, why not treat ourselves and own something really good. Anyway it's no use waiting for politicians to improve the situation.

In the states at retail it'd be about 35% of my monthly salary to pickup a pair.
That's a nice ratio! :) You can painlessly buy yourself hi-end IEM's every now and then.

It's not horrible, but after rent, car note, and all the other hobbies headphones have been taking a back seat lately.

And a quick poll:
How many of your monthly salaries does it take to buy Solaris in your country? For me it takes 1.1 of my salary. In Russia buying from an official retailer is more expensive than if you'd buy directly from CA, so the end price here is approx $1800.

A couple days for me but the cost of living here is horrendously high, decent areas charge $3K rent for a ~65m² apartment..

Yeah sure, that must equate to our price here in Paris given the salary differences :p

Maybe even worse than that, as something like this is around 2K€ here and I doubt there is a mere 30% difference in salaries...

I couldn't keep the Se846, every time I listened to it, I felt like my music was being played whilst I was being drowned / waterboarded. So.. now time to look for a proper amp. Do you guys think I'll get any Hiss from a Lehman Audio Linear SE?

Finally has anyone tried this with the Cayin N8? - I wonder if the SE tube out put on that DAP has any noise?

I'll just have to wait for someone to sell their nw 1z by the looks of it...

The N8 has 0 noise. Bet if you used the 846 for a week your brain will get back to enjoying it.

Around 2-3 weeks for me, which is why I tend to be overly patient when looking for/purchasing new audio stuff. If I was back in the states and it was closer to 3-4 days, I’d probably be sitting here with a Solaris... and a Trinity... and pre-orders for Khan and Z1R.

Curious about ZX300, I dare myself to demo this...

the Impression when short demo ZX300... using Solaris, Local DHC 4.4 mm cable and Flac sdcard.
The power and detail excel my expectation, using 4.4mm, the DAP forcely use High Gain....
No Simbilance in Song like Scorpion or Twenty one pilots.

In term of Noise, since the environment is loud, I can not detect anything...

well this can be alternative DAP. but can't say anything in term of noise. .

edit :
UI, very responsive and smooth. no go for streamer....

Build quality... never doubt SONY... consider this is the best DAP i exp myself.... Sturdy, BOLD & gripable

ZX300 is pretty good, but recently I find it does somewhat recessed the bass on my Andro S (compared to apple lightning adapter).
It might be good for Solaris though since there's no xover between the DD & mid-range BA, the mid-range BA driver won't go to the low freq too much.

WM1A should be on your list too, but then again DX220 will be released in 2+ months so better wait for that I guess.

Come to think about it, you are right regarding the bass. I feel the rumble is detail, but not punchy....
its like the opposite of my X5iii, good punch but not detail

DX220 suppose to be better then DX201.... its totally worth to wait

edit : noticed there are low freq equalizer setting in ZX300... it can do Tube amp like.... unfortunately don't have enough time to test it

@ddmt, how is noise ZX300 with Andro S using Ref8

No noise or hiss that I can hear, even in high gain. Then again I'm in my 40s so my hearing is probably not as good as yours :D
