I had a chance recently to demo the 3 planars from campfire audio and my pick would be for the moon rover.

Take what i say with a grain of salt because this was a demo in store.. with cayin ru6 and my phone s23 ultra.

Supermoon:
Sounded classic v shape to me. Good sub bass and mid bass. Mids a bit back and treble is noticeable. Sometimes the treble for me hits a bit splashy.

Moon rover:
More mid centric or monitor like sound.
More mid bass then sub bass. Mids are warmer because of the mid bass. Warmer male vocals and female vocals have a bit more heft to them. Treble is there but never offensive.

Astrolith:
Ill probably get a lot of hate here but i found it to be too aggressive for my taste. Bass is very present in sub and mid bass. Pretty tactile and great if you like bass. Mids a bit taken back because of the amount of bass this does have. And to me theres a treble spike somewhere that doesnt make it sound like a cohesive iem. Its pretty prominent and in your face.. i couldnt listen to it for so long because it was too peircing for me.

Thats my take on the 3. I think i may buy the moon rover but waiting for a sale.

Edit: kudos to campfire audio for making 3 very different sounding planar iems that will speak to different audiences.

What tips did you use on each? The bass is intense on Astrolith with foams and mids are a bit more back. With the stock silicone tips it all sounds a lot more balanced. Needs to be wide bore, all the narrow bore silicone tips I tried with it dipped the bass too low and accentuated the highs too far.

I don't know why you'd get any hate on this. I own the Supermoons and the Astroliths and I've listened to to the Rover and I'd say your descriptions are pretty accurate. The Astroliths are pretty aggressive. I don't find them piercing, but I can see how someone might find them fatiguing and I certainly don't think anything you said is out of line or anything.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I think having a wide variety of viewpoints and impressions on gear is what makes Head-Fi really valuable. I find reading post like yours from average users on threads like this more useful than the vast majority of reviews when I'm looking into a specific piece of gear.

Haha from the reviews i was very excited about the astrolith .. but for my ears i didnt like it. But i see where they were going with the tuning and know theres people whod love it. I didnt want to offend anyone..hence the preface. I dont mind a good discussion but i dont like arguments.

Edit: thanks for the kind words. I read and watch a lot of videos but rarely post my impressions because i sometimes cant describe what i hear.

You may not want to wait too long. Moon Rover is a limited edition, 888 units. And they had a special last weekend with a free 4.4mm cable and dongle.
Yeah i was told from the sales guy as well. I may end up paying full price. Going back next week to have a better listen using my dc elite. I went there on a whim so i didnt have it on me.

Is it surprising they’re still widely available? They came out in June 2024? Seems like Black Star sold out much quicker and was also a similarly limited run.

If a thread has not been started on burn in you should start one where this can be discussed in more detail.
I’m still kinda new here and this is the only thread I’m active on. I know they exist on other forums and can get real toxic and I don’t want that smoke! 😆

And also while I do know a bunch about this stuff, I am by no means an expert. Most of my education was focused on production.

Had the impressions done and ordered custom tips for my supermoon.
At the time I made the impressions, I also ordered a pair of custom earplugs. These plugs are stiff, supposed to go very deep and are literally painful and stressful in the ears. Not sure if these guys have good customer satisfaction score, but I can't imagine wearing these for a long time let alone sleeping in them (i ordered a sleeping plugs).

Assuming CIEM / Modulate tips aren't supposed to go all the way past the second bend until the eardrum?

Brings back painful memories of etymotics iems.

Extremely happy today! Finally I received the Holocene I bought last week on Campfire market; so surprised this is a pre-owned, since they’re perfect, can’t find a flaw! Great price too with the discount; too bad shipping to Europe+customs are idiotic.
Still experimenting with tips and listening to them. So far I like them!

Is it safe to assume my impressions are most likely fine and whatever they made out of them to put into my ears is just something not every other person can enjoy?
I have never had custom earpieces so I don't know. There will be many here who will share their experiences though.

As much as I tried to live with the deep insertion of the etymotics, because I loved their sound, the comfort issue defeated me in the end. Some lucky people don't have this issue.
