Hi, I’m a total noob to high resolution music, but I want to experience it. I’m thinking of purchasing a sony nwzx300 dap and some campfire audio iems. The music I usually listen to is U2, Lumineers, Mumford and Sons, Vampire Weekend, Coldplay, Explosions in the Sky. Can anyone recommend a particular IEM model from Campfire Audio that would work well with those types of music and the Sony DAP? I’ve read great things about the Andromeda’s but also read they are very sensitive with regards to the source. Unfortunately, I live on the East Coast and have no place near me that sells them, so not sure which would be best.

Thanks

Roger

The Sony and Andromeda work very well together. I only used the balanced 4.4 with the Andromeda and they paired nicely. Do yourself a favor and get the Sony ZX300a from Joybuy with a new customer coupon you could pick it up for probably $369. It has 16 gigs of on board storage but will easily handle a 400gig sd card.

I’ve not heard the Sony DAP your interested in but can recommend the Ibasso DX200, this is what I have with my Andromeda and Vega. There is also the DX150, which is 80% of the DX200 and both have interchangeable amp options. My favourite (and a lot of other peoples) is Amp 8
To be honest, I wouldn’t swap this for any of the Sony line up, check out the DX200 thread as there’s lots of info on that thread.
Whatever you buy, take your time and do plenty of research into DAPs.
One thing I can say about Ibasso is their customer care is outstanding and the best I’ve come across. Campfire also have outstanding customer care.
Your choice of IEMs will be down to your personal preference, Andromeda (balanced armature) is a more neutral sounding iem compared to the Vega (dynamic driver) which has more bass and slam and a seriously fun sounding iem. The Atlas is the newer replacement to the Vega and will cost a bit more. The Polaris is a hybrid and a very good sounding iem for your first taste of the hi-res world.
I enjoy both the Andromeda and Vega. Haven’t really been tempted to buy anything else since owning these, they are quite literally stellar iems and the synergy with the DX200 is perfect.
There are Various threads for the Campfire line up, so check em all out. Campfire’s build quality is of the highest quality and second to none.
Good luck in your search
