So I dropped off my SA5000s to be recabled today, turns out the guy in the shop won't be able to get to them till monday, and he has to "do some research". It is a nice place, I saw several peices of gear there going for $6,000. And they have been here for 20 years.

However the guy has never rewired headphone cables, he has done plenty of mods for people though he says.

Monday I get to pick which cables I use, and I am considering just going crazy and getting some $200 a meter cable for the hell of it. Today I also got a call back and I start a new job next week making good money so this could be a present to myself

What did everyone notice from recabling the SA5000s? Should I go copper or what? It looks like they use mainly Tributaries cables, but they may have others(they hate monster cable so that is a good sign)

No replys eh? Maybe I should post a thread in Headphones saying "How do recabled SA5000s sound? Worth the $?"

I am interested myself, as I like certain things in my SA 5000, and believe they can be greatly improved by recabling, also I would like to use them balanced, so I need to change the cable anyway.
I agree that copper should be the best option to give a bit of warmth and reduce the tendency to brightness.
Another option for you could be to contact Grandenigma here in this forum: He makes excellent custom cables and could give you the best advice (and really good cables).
BTW, I am interested in reading your impressions after recabling.

Well basically the guy did his research and said he would have to make me a cable, which would be expensive, so he just shortened them 3" on both sides and resoldered it for me.

No new cable to evaluate, sorry
