Cables on new LCD-3 difficult (impossible?) to remove...

I can't get the cable connectors out of their sockets with a new pair of LCD-3. It's the stock cable with Rean connectors. The release button is kinda rectangular rather than the round buttons on my LCD-2C. This shouldn't be hard but I can't understand this. It seems like you just have to push the rectangular tab flat against the connector housing but it doesn't release. I can't squeeze any harder than this by hand. Any ideas?

Bump, on account of I can't close the travel box with the cables refusing to come out... :D
