Anybody had experience with these cables up for grabs on e-bay ?

There are loads of different types- RCA, Bi-amp speaker cable, LODs all shipped from Hong Kong.

They always seem cheap and some look quite good but do they sound good or are they just a waste of time.

Anyone bought and listened to any ?

There are 3 types of cables coming from Hong Kong:-

The first one are those designed in Hong Kong and made in Mainland China. These can be wide price range from known brand names such as IsoClean, Silver Ribbon Audio, Sound Mechanics .... etc. They are mostly good quality cable and signficantly cheaper than imported cables in the same class.

The 2nd class are those cables terminated using bulk stock cables, from Japan, Germany, UK, USA,.... - similar to what Blue Jeans does. Some will be decorated and branded to enhanced its appeal, but basically the core is stock cables.

The 3rd class are those cables made in China and a Hong Kong merchant will re-package the product and sell at a higher price, or do the marketing bit to promote the Chinese brand. If you are lucky you can be getting real good cables and a very competitive price in this category.

Of course there are also different combinations, but the above give an overview.

FWIW,

I believe fkclo is right. At various times over the years during weak or bored moments I have purchased cables from each one of the categories stated above and the results were as fkclo stated. Some were good, some have been relegated to the videogame room or office computer, you takes your chances but every once in a while you strike gold.
