Hi boys and gurls. I recently bought a pair of HD650 headphones from a fellow montreal head-fier and i love them really much. Only a little problem though, i find them to have lean bass a little

Since all the reviews and impression i read was telling that they add powerfull bass i'm kinda shocked about the fact that i find them to need some more oomph. In fact i find them warm and dark but still got great details and i love them to death when it come to detail and presentation, but then i miss my power in the bass. So i start wondering if a aftermarket cable could bring the bass to a more weighty bass. I want to feel it, so tighter and deeper if that can be. So to all of you who have tried different Aftermarker HD650 cable wich one do you think empowered the bass?

I never find the HD-650 to have BIG bass (superbly extended down, yes, but never bloated up in the mid-bass). If you are looking to boost the mid-bass (which is what I suspect you are looking for), an EQ will be most effective. To answer your question directly, the Silver Dragon V1 Senn cable I previously owned also boosted the bass very noticably.

Regards.

Well i want my Senn to bump di bump! hahaha
in clear terms i want them to be more agressive in the bass, i am not a basshead cause i like my details and my treble up high (no grado harshness problem to date) but i like my bass deep enough. For instance i love the bass of my recabled K81DJ. I think that you nailed it with the mid bass upgrade! Ill look for that.

I own or have owned the following aftermarket cables: Zu, RnB G52, Black Dragon balanced, and am familiar with Equinox. Although all change the sound, I haven't noticed what I suspect you're looking for in a more...uh..present (?) bass. A cable won't do that, but a kick arse amp and source will help.

Your driving them with a pimeta/pa2v2?

hahaha i really need to upgrade my info, in fact i was about to post my rig.
I now use a Cambridge Azur 540V to a newly acquired VDA-1 + VAC-1 amped with my PPAv2 and Rudistor RP5.1 switching from time to time to test (yes i got into deep since the pimeta pa2v2 hehe

I'd have to agree... no cable is likely going to add sufficient bass emphasis... if you think the HD650's are "bass light." However, the Zu, and the Cardas both seem to add some bass emphasis to the HD650's - although, I'm sure the right DAC and amp are likely to do a better job... and a good EQ/SP even better.

Well about the DAC i just got it today, but it really add some weight compared to the Zhaolu 2.0 and LITE DAC-AH i had previously. So the problem might reside in the transport - cables maybe. I use Grover S as rca cable and all basic power cable for my equipement. Soon i will get an aftermarket powercord so i will see if this help. If not i will clearly look for another cable.

I also have pairs of DT770 pro / DT880 05 / K501
While i love the DT880 for bass light music like jazz i fell a need to more oomph for my rap music. The DT770 are just bloated to my ears and don't touch the HD650 by a mile, they got bass but not musical bass as i am looking for

i think a better cable will either improve the bass or tighten it. the difference should be noticeable but not significant.

Come on, all we need to know is whatever his cable budget is. Then we can assure him that a cable that one of us has for sale for twice that amount will do what he wants.

In my experience, aftermarket cables offer only very subtle improvements of the bass range. I think an equalizer or a better amp/source would offer much better results.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't think you'll find any cable tweaks to add the bass you want. That's not what cables do. Higher-end cables are more for refinement in recovery of detail, soundstage, and frequency extension, not for adding emphasis on any part of the frequency spectrum. That sounds like more the job for an amp.

Looks like an amp and/or source upgrade is in your future.
