I always here of people replacing their headphone cable to their HD600, and I'm curious if something like this would be possible, or even worthwhile for my favorite headphones, the DT-770's.

Possible, yes. The question is how much work your willing to do. The HD600's (and some other Sennheisers) have a small plug in connection at the ear cup, making a cable swap very easy. Most pther phones, the wires are soldered in and must be taken apart and modified to use a new cable.
