I have ordered this item, and I already know I want to replace the stock cable just because I want a straight plug rather than an L-shaped plug (where it's inserted into the jack of my DAP). I don't know if it makes any difference that the DAP I ordered isa Fiio X5ii. I don't have a huge budget for this at the moment, so just something reliable that is straight. Any recommendations? Any particular specs I should be trying to get? Or trying to avoid? Thanks.

Thank you! What advantage does a 4-pin TRRS plug have?

It is balanced, so less noise and more power. The cables are kind of expensive though and will only work with the Fiio DAP or another balanced amp/DAP with that specific input. So unless you really want to go balanced, I think sticking with a 3.5mm is more convenient.

If you're running balanced out of the X5III (as opposed to having a mic, which is what TRRS pluugs/sockets were originally for), more power and slightly better power to distortion/noise ratio.

Not that the IEM really absolutely needs that much more power than what the X5 can spit out on single ended operation but if you're replacing the plug anyway, might as well get that.

Ah, gotcha. But people use their X5's as a DAC for computer, right? So I guess I'd be okay if I went through there, hrm...

Is there some kind of guide on this site that lists some basic/recommended cable replacements? I've seen them for IEM's and headphones, but just wondering if there was something like that for cables so I can learn more about what I might want. At the moment I don't have a huge budget as I already just spent 450 dollars on the IEMs and X5ii, but I'd like to see what my options are.

Thank you.

Ah yeah you're right, I forgot you could do that.

I'm not much of a cable person so I can't really help you there.

Thanks guys. Would I be able to plug this kind of plug into my computer as well as the X5ii ?

Directly, no. You can physically, but the socket even if it accommodates a TRRS plug has a Mic + on the L- or R-.

That works as long as the IEMs are plugged into the X5.

Here's a diagram for what goes where.
