I've been an owner of shure e2c's for some time now and cable cracking has been an ongoing issue. I'm seriously considering taking the plunge and getting a nice set E500s or UM2s, but I was wondering if cable cracking is an issue with these IEMs as well. Is cable cracking a problem that only concerns E2Cs? Has anyone had cable cracking in any of the IEMs mentioned above or any other IEM for that matter?

Thanks for your responses in advanced.

E500 is quite notorious for having poor cables also, but the Shure customer service seems to be very willing to replace units that suffer from this.
UM2, I don't recall seeing any cable problems about, UE is very good with cables also, and both companies have user replaceable cables too, for about $20.

what do you mean by cable cracking?

i've had a problem with my shure e4's, where i hear a weird buzzing sound whenever there's loud guitars. the only way to stop the buzzing is to hold the cable where it meets the casing.

i've had this happen with around 6 pairs of e4's. i called shure and talked to a guy named blake (i think that was his name) who is in charge of warranties or something, and he was a total jerk and a half. telling me that it's earwax stuck in the nozzle. i told him i changed the nozzle and he still insisted that it was a nozzle problem. also, he checked my name in the computer and said i've only replaced 4 pairs of e4's (which is not correct. i'm more than sure it's been around 6 or 7) and that they shouldn't have even been replaced more than twice. he then said that he put a flag on my name and that if i ever send my headphones in, they go straight to him. he also went on to tell me that if he doesn't want to replace them for free (which is 100% his descision) there would be a charge of (i think he said) $75.

so, yeah.
screw you, blake (if that is your name) at shure.

If you're talking about where the cable enters the driver housing, the flexible, molded strain relief connectors on Ety's and Westones are the only ones that will outlast the warranty period.
