i have read through the old posts suggesting the preamp section of DA10 is to be bypassed to avoid sound from being degraded, but how to do so? Is it just by adjusting the output volume, or can only be achieved through modding?

Hi
two things are going on here. the Lavry isn't as much a pre-amp as it is a volume controlled dac. You can't fix the output level, however the best number I heard was 46. I would rather set the lavry at a good level and run that to my pre-amp than be going up and down the number list, but that's just me.

in other words, you can't actually fix it unless you mod it.. but you can leave it at the volume you find best.

Like granodemostasa said you can't fix the output level. The variable volume out isn't degrading the sound quality no matter what level you leave it at. You can check the Lavry Engineering forums if you want to verify.

Depending on your preamp or headphone amp you might find a different volume level works best for you.

I leave mine at 15 since it allows fine control of my Melos SHA-1's volume pot. I think around 20-25 it's putting out about the same voltage as most normal CD players.
