Hello,

I am looking for some over-ear headphones that would fulfill the points listed below:
Primary Use: Music (will ask for more details as to which)
Noise Canceling: Have a fair/decent amount of noise canceling (closed), but nothing too specific here.
Size: They should preferably be larger, not too small. The size would be for comfort. My friend is quite large himself so it would fit his stature/build.
Color: Nothing specific at all

PRICE RANGE: The absolute maximum should be at the $150 range, but preferably abround $100. As a site note, should look and sound decent enough for a present of the chosen price.

Thank you for any and all contributions. I used this site myself to help choose headphones for myself, but for a different purpose and price range. I came back for some more feedback from this kick-ass community.

PS. Some cans I looked at earlier and seemed alright, but don't let this affect your recommendations: Shure SRH440

Audio Technica m50x only thing that comes to mind at that price range.  Not much under $150 that will give you good quality audio.  The technica's would probably be the best bet.

Sorry, but those are a bit too expensive. The headphones don't have to be amazing, just good. I know this price range doesn't cover high-fidelity headphones, but something decent at the price range I gave would be appreciated.

If the m50x are too expensive Id go with the m40x. Even soundwise I like them better. As a matter of fact I gifted the m40x like a year ago to very good friend. Hes still enjoing them.

you could get the m50 without removable cables.

The main difference between the m40 and m50 is going to be the driver size.  The m40 has a 40mm drive and the m50 a 50mm driver.

The m40 i believe will sound more neutral than the m50, the m50 will have more bass with a slightly warmer tone (fun cans).

Most people that are coming from consumer (bass head cans)  will like the m50 headphones but the m50s will have more detail than what they are sued to.

Either way you go im sure they will be happy.

You believe?

It either will or it won't.
Sounds like you're recommending headphones without owning or auditioning them.

I own the M50x headphones, i dont own a pair of M40s.  But the M40s have a smaller driver in the same lineup so its going to suffer in some way or another compared to the m50s.

heres a quick google i found in comparing the two.  And my assumption is pretty close.

The m40x, m50x and m50 sound more similar than different. The m40x is to my ears the more balanced one out of the 3. Still, they are m50s at heart, just slightly less bass emphasis. They do inherent the metallic, sparkly treble of the m50s. Considering price Id go with the m40x over the m50. The m50 have a non detachable cable, the m40x come with 2 cables, a straight and a coiled one. What I will say though is that the m40x are less tank-like. The folding mechanism feels flimsy and wobbly if that makes any sense. The m50 has a better, more secure feel to the folding mechanism
