Hi All,

I've been running on the treadmill a year now and I'm always covered with sweat (plenty).

I listen to R&B/HipHop during the running with my 1st gen Nano & ER4P. I always change the filters in the ER4P every month b/c the sweat damages them.

Few months ago, I bought a Triple.fi 10 pro and love the sound and couldn't go back to my ER4P. But the sweat almost damaged my Triple.fi after using them for three weeks and I had to go back to the ER4P.

I'm thinking of buying Shure SE530PTH, but will it withstand the salty sweat coming from my head during running?

Any suggestion or advice? Do you know of any other IEM?

Thanks All

Chukwe

I'm not sure about the SE530PTH, but I do have the E500 and I had the e5c. For both of those I wouldn't run on the treadmill with them. I feel it would get damaged over time. I use these Sony Sony MDR-EX51LP that cost around $39. I've used them for biking and running for the last 2 1/2 years and they are still going strong.

I run for almost two hour on thses treadmills. I feel I need big and quality sound to concentrate for that period.

Does the Sony MDR-EX51LP sound great?

I now remember. I've used these Sony EX51LP. They keep on falling of my ear. I've to adjust it all the time.

I had that same problem. I had to use that cord management plastic thing that came with them and had them go behind my head. If I had them dangling in the front, then they would fall off my ear too. I use them for lifting weights as well and they work good. As far as sound, they provided pretty good bass for the workout mix I had. If you find one you like, post them up and I might give them a shot as well. Happy hunting.

I have E500s that I use everyday when I run. I suppose the only damage that could be done is to the cable from sweat (overtime). A re-cable is possible if you happen to screw it up, I remember reading a ways back about a guy who modded his E500s and had a UE10 cable on it, done by some Japanese guy.

edit: I have been here for a while, never felt like registering.

Good lord, you must be a god. The Sony Fontopias seem to fall apart after only several weeks of use, for many people, including myself.

I wouldn't use them. Personally.
I've got a set of Shure E4G's that I use for exercise and getting sweaty, and they have these over the ear rubber attachments which are ideal for them. But I still worry about them though, as they have a little metal sort of ring on the body which I don't think would love the sweat.
I use my E500's only for the house/work/travelling. I wouldn't risk going out with them in the rain or working out. They may well be able to take it as the fit is brilliant, but I'd just worry about them permanently, and they aren't cheap as you know.

I use my e500s for everything, exercise, working in the yard etc. I have had them almost a year and not a single problem. I used my e5's similarly, and had one channel give out after 6 months or so. I highly doubt this had anything to do with my use, and of course Shure replaced them.

If I was afraid to use iems for my portable needs, it woudln't have been worth buying them.

The gym has destroyed too many of my IEM's.

The Crossroads X3 are a good sounding inexpensive IEM that is disposable. They also fit securely with the UE tip of your choice.

I'd never use my E500s for working out (well never again

) instead I got a pair of px100s. They are great for my 5 mile runs in the morning. Though on a treadmill open cans are annoying cause the noise from the motors.

Although shure will replace them for you, but that one- two week wait sucks and you'll be wishing you hadn't of ran on the treadmill with them. Just get some cheaper iems now and save yourself pain later.

I would advise against using E500/SE530 for the gym as Shure has admitted that there are issues with the wire. I would use a cheaper priced IEM i.e. E4, for exercising.

I've had issues with my E500's, now the wire cracking where you put them around the ear. Along with the wire holding the ear bud in place. And to top it off, the actual plastic is cracked from the ear bud itself. It's brutal, I guess I won't ever use it when working out when I get it back from RMA.
