You will be taxed for VAT, at the usual 17.5% of whatever the declared value is.

Plus any rip-off handling charge by the courrier.

When I consider any import like this I add 25% to the item price and the shipping cost to arrive at a budget cost so I won't have a a nasty surprise. Is 25% too pesimistic?

I had HF-1's and a RSA SR-71 delivered to London without copping any extra taxes...it's a risk you take.

Even with tax it would have been cheaper than buying an alternative locally, though there's not much to choose from.

Maybe you can get a Head-Fi'er who splits his life between the US and UK to bring one over and send it to you from within the UK. After all, it's a very small box...

I happen to know one in fact who is going to be going to the UK on the 18th of April who might just be able to that for you...

Really? That's a generous offer [on behalf of whoever would be doing it]. So how would it work then? I transfer the money in pounds sterling before plus UK postage and when they get back they send it to me Royal Mail or whatever?
