I tried my best to pry out the model number button of my 1mth old Sr-60s, but it seemed that it wasn't as easy as people have tried last time. It seems that the button, and the plastic grille of the SR-60s were attached SO STRONGLY that when i tried to twist/pull/yank the button using my pliers, the button not only is still stuck to the grille, it brought the grille out with it. I ended up cutting the bent grille out of my cups, as the part where it is stuck to the cup uses the same gule as the model button.

Thank God I only worked on one cup, and the drivers are still in perfect condition. I used a sponge to cover up the damage, and now one side of the cups look like earmuffs.

I do not quite like the sound of the Grados, I think I am more of a sennheiser man. In fact, I have been using my HD201s so much more than the Grados. (I listen to classical 99% of the time so the Grados sound abit weird.) I was thinking of un-cabling both of my HD201 and SR-60s, and re-cable the Grado cables to the HD201s.

I also dislike my HD497 due to too much ZANG in the sound of the violins, makes them sound super fake) Then I can leave the Grado drivers for spare parts for future projects.

I heard of one guy here recabling his new HD201s, but I simply cannot get 'good headphone cables' here in Singapore. And I want to try somthing radical too. Buy low mod high or something like that.

What do you guys think? Are the Grado cables good? I heard of one guy here recabling his new HD201s, but I simply cannot get 'good headphone cables' here in Singapore. And I want to try somthing radical too. Buy low mod high or something like that.

I like the Grado Cable. I actually recabled my HD201 with it. With a little bit of craftiness you can mod them to accept a one sided cable (i.e. the cable goes into one cup and that's it). The headphones are built like they were meant for it. The Grado cable sounds great, it opens up the cans, and removes a bit of that veil. It just sounds less muffled. I wouldn't say more upfront, just less muffled.

I recommend it

Just go SLT level 2, LHS. You will see rolls of cables.

Highly recommended is the Canare starquad. I doubt you can find any Klotz there. The Mini Canare Starquad is the most suited for Grado if you decide to techflex the whole cable.
