I am having trouble getting my KLH TNE 7000A working correctly (from research some of his products were made under a KLH name - the the KLH speaker company).

I have the RCA output from my TT connected to Input on the TNE. The output from the TNE goes to the phono input on my amp. I found a manual for the TNE and like it instructed I left TAPE and Defeat both off.

I turned both knobs all the way counter clock ways. I turned the first knob (one on the left) up until the LED for it was dim (still following the manual). This seemed to help roll off any really high noise.

According to the manual the LED on the right will illuminate whenever a pop is removed. However, when it illuminates it is accompanied with a loud pop sound on my speakers. Instead of removing pops (the record I was playing was actually quite quiet) it seemed to be adding some kind of electronic sounding pop noise! If I adjusted the right knob clock ways the noise would only get worse and more frequent. I noticed the record sounded better on bypass.

I just purchased this unit used. Am I connecting something wrong? Am I not configuring something correctly? Is this unit broken? I already consulted one person from this site and he thinks it might be bad. Any ideas?

Thanks

By the sound of it you are connecting the Burwen before the phonostage which isn't how it's supposed to be configured.
If you are using an integrated amp then try connecting the Burwen to the tape loop and if you have only one tape loop then use the tape loop on the Burwen to connect your tape machine.
That way you select phono on the amp and listen to the Burwen treated signal via tape monitor.
