alright ive purchased the 0.4mm insulated silver wire from qables as well as a 3.5mm mini and a dock connector. im planning to just do a simple 3 wire braid, unless anyone can inform me of the advantages to doing something like a 4 wire litz and using 2 wires for the ground i assume? other than that, my real question is, would it be wise to cover my braid in rubber tubing and THEN techflex or will I be fine with just a combination of heatshrink and techflex (ive seen ppl do both i think). its just a short length maybe 4 inches, so my current assumption is that the rubber tubing wouldnt really be needed, just techflex and heatshrink over the braid should be A-OK? if thats the case, perhaps someone can tell me whether i should shoot for a 3 or a 4 wire braid (or even 5 if someone can gimme a set of instructions? lol) thanks as always guys

Try to get a couple of docks, on your first time you may mess up. I was successful, but I really took my time (and I ordered more than 1, so I could have cared less

I dunno.. i think heatshrink and techflex is fine.. its stiff enough too and overdoing it will just make you something like a solid stick..
I used 3 wires.. I dunno, line out is'nt much current anyway.. besides, 3 pins on the dock, 3 pins on the mini plug.. so i dont fel a need to split it back up specially since it joins back together again too.. but I havent built a 4 wire one, so I cant compare.. maybe one day I'll build one with all the rest of the specs teh same so I can compare.. but I need to get all my amp parts and get my amps built so I can better hear the differences anyway. meanwhike just me my nano, diy dock and a cmoy.. ooh and life IS better with ultrasone

edit: i got (6.4mm) nominal diameter (min-max diam: 3.2-11.1mm).. fits perfectly over 3 wires and heatshrink.
also, i find that doing the mini plug first is easier since its shell can then be screwed back and you get better access for he heatshrink.. and the dock thing just snaps closed too.. also, its easier to do a continuity check from the mini jack to the wire ends to see what goes where than if your dock is all soldered in and you need to do the same on the other end..

enjoy
