Hello, I'm a total newbie requesting help from you experts on buildling a CMoy. I've been referred here by some members on another forum. Currently, I have this:

And a Creative Zen Micro.
The stock earphones are of decent quality, but I want something more, and thus my Koss comes into play. I've most of the things planned out in my head and now need to get the materials, but I can't seem to find an op amp in a store nearby. I have access to Fry's and RadioShack. My thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks, rellik, but that's where I started from. I need to know where I might be able to purchase an op amp, as I seem to have all the other materials covered.

Uh... where can I get a decent op amp, do you think? And it has to be an offline shop.

Thanks, sky. I now have another qusetion: will using carbon resistors instead of metal film ones dramatically impact the performance? And I think I will have to shop online for some of these...

Well, I checked all of them and none of them had the Op Amp. So I guess I'll have to order everything from DigiKey or Newark. Might as well return everything I bought and order now. Thanks for the help, though, sky.

RadioShack has a 50-pc metal film resistor assortment for ~$5 that has every value you need for a CMoy... in fact if they match well you can possibly get 2 CMoys out of it. They also carry a TL082 opamp, that, while not great, will work. The pot your out of luck anywhere except Digikey (or get one of the Alps RK097s with built in switch from Tangent).

Thanks, Pars. I'll look into them. But if I were to use all parts from RadioShack, what should I do about the metal film resistors? The only ones they had were carbon resistors. And yes, Skyskraper, I did call them and had the guys check the inventory. If I am to order online, is DigiKey a credible website?

Digikey is a very reputable website, I have used them several times, as has probably 99% of the people in the DIY section of the forums who live in the USA. One thing to watch out for, for small orders (under $25) there is a $5 handling charge slapped on, so you might wanna check out mouser, another great site that I am about to place a rather large order with.
