Hello, I looking for a pair of headphones for listening to music (Mostly Rock/Metal) Here's the four bands I listen to most: Avenged Sevenfold, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park and Bloc Party....

The price is a little hard to say becouse I live in Sweden and it's a big difference in price.... But about the same price as Grado SR80 costs, is it about $100 ?

I've got some tips about AKG, Sannheiser and Grado.

The headphones should be "open/halfopen" and cover the whole ear (I'm not sure if that is the correct translate from Swedish..)

I don't care about if it's "leaking" sound from them, 'cause I will only use them in my room...

I'm a noob about headphones so I don't know anything about amplifier for headphones... I have loudspeakers now and will use the same amplifier for the headphones (Harman Kardon HK980 Harman Kardon HK 980 Amplifier | Amplifiers Are there any difference witch headphones is best with that amplifier ?

Sorry for my bad English...

I would suggest Alessandro MS1 (tweaked Grado's) - $110 for the 'i' version, very well respected & have free international shipping. I just bought a pair of SR60s & now I'm sort of wishing I paid a bit more for the Alessandro's...

If your on a real serious budget, consider Koss KSC75 or Koss Portapro. You can pick either one up on Amazon.co.uk (here in the UK obviously) for under £20.

How important is bass? I hear AD700 are great but lack bass. Alessandro's may have slightly more but wouldn't be considered 'bassy.'

I've got MS1s (not the "i" version). They sound really great, but the bass may need some help depending on the OP's taste for sound.

Thanks fo the tips, but for the Alessandro... I want the phones to cover my whole ear if you know what I mean... The Audio-Techica phones sounds very good ! But I don't think I can get one of them in Sweden :/ On their homepage I can click on Sweden and I get a link to a Swedish Distributor, (Benum.se) But that page sucks

Would the AD700 be a good choice for you? It depends.

You listen to rock / metal music, and you'd be plugging it into your H/K receiver.

Some enjoy their AD700 with rock / metal music. Some don't. I did not from 3 sources: a cheap (warm sounding) receiver, cheap (bright sounding) sound card, and from a HotAudio DAC.

Some would enjoy their AD700 from an H/K receiver, but some would prefer it from a less warm sounding source / amp. I owned an H/K receiver, and like most I found it to be a "warm" sounding receiver.

And then there's the issue of how the AD700 would fit, and whether you'd find it comfortable or in need of radical modification. Some find its fit very comfortable, while others do not. And this seems to depend mostly on head width / size.

And then it would help if you described what type of sound you want from headphones because they often sound quite different. People prefer listening to different sounding headphones. And, for example, there's nothing wrong with preferring the sound of the MS1 for this music and from your receiver. Just like there's nothing wrong with preferring the AD700 for this music and from your receiver. Whatever you prefer listening to is all that should matter.

I listen to a lot of loud rock, pop, etc music which often has a strong bass line, and I prefer hearing and feeling it, which the AD700 did not provide.

Some say the AD700 is great, and some say it is hype and is blown away by other headphones. And I understand how people can have such widely diverse opinions. We all do not prefer the same type of sound.

Sorry but I changed my mind a little... I've found a pair of phones that cost a little more... AKG K 242 HD (AKG Personal Audio - K 242 HD) Are they any good ? They seem to be good... and they are gbeing sold in Sweden, and I think there's a shop not to far away from me so I can test them... It would be perfect for me...

Sorry but I've changed my mind a little.. I've found pair of phones that costs a little more then I said before... AKG K 242 HD (http://www.akg.com/personal/K_242_HD..._psmand,1.html) Are they any good ? They are being sold in Sweden.. And I think there's a shop not too far away from me who sell them... I would be perfect... They cost about 180 dollars... That's directly transfered from Swedish Kronor, so it is seartainly much less in US... like 135 dollars or something...

I personally find the AKG line (Especially the 272's) to very "Flat" across the board. In other words, I would not recommend them for your type of music. You require a more FUN, Punchy, Rock Can. I still recommend the AD700's.. Another choice from Beyerdynamic ( Germany) would be the DT770 80 ohm cans dependant upon availl. in your area.

Check this out, it has ,most of the sennheiser models with descriptions and swedish prizes
http://www.sennheisernordic.com/sennheiser/globals.nsf/resources/Headphones_May1st_2009_SEK.pdf/$File/Headphones_May1st_2009_SEK.pdf

I have used quite a few Sennheisers, and have not been dissapointed with any of them (yes, i'm a fanboy so take my advice with a grain of salt).

HD555 is on your prize range, though I'm not sure what do you expect from a headphone, that is if you want a "huge bass", then this might not be for you.

Also, there is one sennheiser phone that I have to mention, the HD202 (can be had for 404kr!) which is excellent for the money. I use it at work, and often with my mp3 player. The other phones that I have are literally 10 to 20 times more expensive, but I still don't feel too bad when I have to switch to the hd202 when I go to work. And this is without dedicated amp.

FWIR, the AD700 and DT700 are two VERY different sounding headphones. And because people have different preferences, uses for headphones, and different associated equipment, there no doubt are those who enjoy this kind of music with the AD700 and DT700.

However, based on my experience and FWIR, I would not buy either of these for rock / metal, but that's just me.
