Hey everyone, I'm planning on getting myself a small <$100 leap into hi-fi. Chaintech AV710 as my cheap card, and probably a sub $50 cmoy as amp.

My question is, I would need a pair of cans to finish off this plan.
My musical tastes are fiarly simple.
Prog- Floyd, Tool, APC, Radiohead
Power/heavy metal - Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden.

So I need some cheap cans that can give me a better expirance then this crappy soundblaster and koss phones. Somewhere in the $25-$50 range.

Koss PortaPro/KSC-35/KSC-50/KSC-55 or Sennheiser PX100.

EDIT: Skip the CMOY for now as cans in the sub-$50 pricerange won't benefit from it and you have many more choices in the sub-$100 pricerange.

Hard to go wrong with the Alessandro MS1s.
Easily beats the Eggos, SR60/80, V6, HD280, CD780, etc. in my book for <$100 crown. Especially with your taste in music.

PortaPros/PortaPros2 and KSC35s are other winners at half to third the price.

will the Alessandro's sound okay out of the chaintech without an amp? If so I'll defiantly save up for them,a nd maybe some portapro/2s to throw around also.

I'd recommend to check the Creative HQ-1300 (aka Labtec Elite 840) - it's only ~ 25 Euro over here and surprisingly good for the price. An el cheapo Groovalizer, if you will... Fairly efficient, too.

Greetings from Hannover!
