What is the least expensive amp, under $100(closer to $50 if possible) that will drive 2 headphones at the same time, and sound good? It will be used at home only, occasionally, for my wife and I to listen to DVD movies thru our stereo. It will ONLY BE USED FOR DVD MOVIES, so I'm hoping an inexpensive amp will do the job. I tried a splitter into my headphone jack, but it won't power both headphones. One is 55 ohms and the other is 60 ohms. Thanks.

Look here , there are a few...some aren't specified to work with such a low impedance.

I've never used any of the amps linked to but for only $50 or so they should work ok for movies, just guessing.

I think your best bet in that budget is to get a decent amp and then use a Y splitter. If the volume levels are really different, maybe you can rig up a quick DIY to raise the impedance of the 55 ohm one.

Thanks guys. Would the following work? Buy a single output amp, hook up to the receiver somehow in back for one headphone? Then plug the second pair into the receiver's headphone jack?

There's always the Boostaroo Amplifier and Splitter. They have one amplifier that has a three channel splitter for like $30, and another that has 2 channels for $50.

Ebay is FULL of low-priced hadphone amps, with up to 4 or even 6 outputs, since you said absoulte SQ is not the main concern.
Many with individual volume controls for each outlet, too.
Do a search for "headphone amp*" on ebay, and see. Tons of them.
Most of them are shown in GreatDane's thread above, on his link.
