I've always been interested in this guy, not every guitarist wears a KFC bucket on his head and fights giant robots after all

, but today I finally picked up an album by him, Population Override. I thought it would just be some wierd mindless shredding and the like, but it absolutely blew me away! His synergy with the keyboardist, beautiful phrasing, and strong funk influences (think Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain"), were just great. Does anyone out there listen to him? Have any recommendations?

Buckethead is a wild and crazy guy, no doubt....

I can't really give many recos, though, since I've only really listened his stuff with Praxis and Colnel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. And some tracks on compilations, but I don't have any of his solo albums.

I have 5 of his solo CD's and one of him with Praxis, and I'm gonna try to see him on his current tour. Monsters & Robots is more of a traditional CD as far as songwriting goes, but if you're ready to dive head-first into Buckethead's bizarre sense of humor, check out Bucketheadland 2. 30 tracks of randomness, with some great guitar work spread throughout.

I'm listening to 'Enter the chicken'. Its blowing my mind in good ways. This time last week I thought the guy was an idiot, now I don't care how he carries on as long as he keeps releasing music of this quality I'll be happy.

VERY nice. Never listened to him before but will be in the future. The guitar work is so smooth and sharp it almost sounds like a music box or something.

I just bought my ticket today for his 4/12 show at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO...it's my second show of his but last time it was Giant Robot tour and this time it's unbranded so hopefully he'll have "wedges" from many albums...I've been jamming his stuff for like 7 years now (holy @#$%) and I still need to get a bunch of stuff...I need like Day of the Robot and Electric Tears and stuff p e a c e

Electric Tears is very good. You need to get it now!

You will have to give us a review of that show also. I live where buckethead will never play.

Oh, and Antiant - settle down, we all know how to use the search function.

Between my friend and I, I think we have most everything he's done.

Buckethead also makes *the best* halloween costume. Cost is like 10 bucks, 6 for the cheap wig and 4 for the mime mask, usually i get the bucket for free or 35 cents. The thing about buckethead is it freaks out adults more than the kids. You spend 90% of the time at the halloween party (for example) hearing folks whisper to each other "what the hell is he supposed to be?" and generally staring at you in fear, and then there's the one cool guy at the party (usually dressed as satan) who screams, "BUCKETHEAD!!" and pours you a beer.

yo yo yo..I just go t back from the show in Boulder. It was very good. Buckethead gave a very generous performance as he played for over 3 hours. I left at 1 and he was still playing but I'm sure there was only a couple songs w/ encore left. Anyway, Pinchface broke a drum and they had to fix it, people were moshing, and of course Bman broke out the nunchakus. To be honest, I had a long day so I wasn't as receptive as possible, but it was a good show and if you've never seen him you'll have a blast. later

Agreed . . . I have Population Override and Bucketheadland 2. I think Buckethead as a guitarist and musician is fab. If it weren't for his strange antics, he would be much better known and hailed as a superb techinician.

In some ways, Population Override reminds me of the better Jeff Beck instrumental albums.
