I highly, highly recommend everyone here purchase Broken Social Scene's "You Forgot it in People."

amazon link / Pitchfork's excellent review / direct link to sound clips (RealAudio)

It's a bunch of people (10 in total) from the Canadian experimental/post-rock scene (Do Make Say Think, lots of other bands on Constellation etc.) getting together and making essentially a pop/rock record. Four minute songs, vocals, hooks, etc.

It's incredible. It's probably one of the best things I've heard in a long time. It's simple, catchy, smart, and different.

If stuff like Broken Social Scene were played on MTV and the radio, the world would be a better place. This is what pop music SHOULD sound like, damnit!

I'd love to second this recommendation. If I had more time I'd ramble on about how much I enjoy walking at night in the warm spring air, with the sky lit up by the moon, and everything seeming very surreal, a state of mind and a feeling greatly amplified by listening to 'You Forgot It In People' by BSS.

If I had more time, I would ramble. But I don't. 'Cuz I'm off to see The Flaming Lips at the Plaza of Nations, with Modest Mouse, Liz Phair, Destroyer, and Midnight Mint. All for $35 in canadian dollars, which is just slightly over $20 US.

I love Vancouver.

Turns out I'm not leaving for another 10 minutes or so...

Hey at least you guys got the Silverchair concert last night, that would have been pretty cool, as far as their new material goes (Across the Night, Tuna in the Brine are both excellent songs). I would have been there if I were in Toronto. but instead I was here seeing Coldplay and The Music. Quite a good show, I now have an appreciation for the song "One I Love", which I previously thought nothing of, but is very energetic live. The Music were also very good, they are definitely going places. The singer is entertaining as hell, whenever he started dancing, everyone would cheer. I'm going to buy their album soon, if not today. Only $9.99 at A&B Sound (Western 4 provinces).

Anyways, not to detract from this thread... I'm sorry, I hope this doesn't hijack it, because Broken Social Scene deserves a little more exposure, I would love for some fellow Head-Fiers to get into their music.

BSS has recently signed a U.S. distribution deal (dunno if there's an official release date yet) so wider exposure should be forthcoming. Yeah, Vancouver might be a nice place, but they're playing TWO gigs in Toronto

(only have tickets to one though). On a relate note, Stars (BSS's opening act on some dates) also has an album well worth checking out..

'Elevator Love Letter' by Stars is one of my favourite songs of late. I'm seriously considering buying that album based only on that song and another, something I rarely do.

I imagine BSS would be pretty awesome live.

..and, from what I've read, if any band's worth listening to live two nights in a row, it's broken social scene; they're known to have different lineups at different gigs (and different instruments, leading to unique versions of their songs) simply because this band (nay, this collective) is so large that they have trouble coordinating schedules..

Yea this album is excellent, although I haven't listened to it in awhile. I remember the sound quality being somewhat poor on some tracks, does that sound right to you guys? Still excellent either way, though.

Amen to the recommendation!

"You Forgot it in People" is easily the best rock album I've heard this year. The most amazing thing to me is how easygoing, relaxed and unforced the whole thing sounds, which is not what I would have expected from what is (at least on paper) "post-rock supergroup." This disc has not been out of my car CD magazine since I bought it, nor do I plan on removing it any time soon.

I've never had the chance of getting anything from them over here, but 'Walls Are Getting Smaller' remains one ofthe best song that came out last year.

Got this CD from Amazon the other day. So far I love it. It's like an American version of 'The Doves'. It changes enough where each track is it's own album.
