For some inexplicable reason the HDD in my Kenwood DAP decided to fail on me at the gym today. I listened to it for a couple hours while exercising, went to the dressing room, placed the DAP on the bench, changed my pants, and when I picked it back up to listen some more the screen said "ERROR 0000001" and failed to restart. It says the same thing every time. Putting the device to my ear I can here it making all kinds of crazy noises.

So I got home and tried to synch it and it will go into USB mode but my computer fails to recognize the drive other than what size it is. I can't reformat it even!

I know someone had Kenwood repair their DAP on here before, I think it might have been Assorted. What did you have to do to get it repaired? And does anyone think it would be feasible to replace the HDD with another one on my own?

That's sad. But using an HD player at gym is crazy!

**** man. I know it uses the same Toshiba HDDs that iPods and Zunes use so I might just order a cheap one off eBay and replace it.

Interested. Hope it works out for you with the new Toshiba HDD.

Are you sure that's the HDD? The same thing happened to me even though there was nothing physical done to it.

I suggest you go through the warranty service instead, since you'd be voiding it by replacing the drive. They're quick to respond, and use EMS, just have your receipt ready.

I just replaced the HD in my ZVM. Found a drive online for $62 shipped...not sure if it is a refurbished drive but it has held up for a couple weeks with no issues. If you want to replace it yourself pm me and I can give you the website.

You can't use a HD player in the gym? That sucks!

does it take toshiba GAL or GAH 1.8" drives ?
becuase the GAL are limited at 30gb, and the GAH go out to 80gb, the differance is signle VS dual plate, the only issue is that the 2nd plate adds 3mm to the hight of the device (studied all this crud when i was thinking about upgrading my NW-HD5), if they used GAL series, then the drive is expencive and hard to find, if they used GAH, well, JACKPOT!!!, i can get a 80gb here in madrid for 135 euros,

5mm, maximum upgrade is 40gb, around 85 euros for the drive

GAL is 5mm
GAH is 8mm

the new 60gb players are probobly GAH, but the chasis is probobly modified to fit the extra 3mm

the shame is, i leocated a 100GB drive, the only problem is that its a GAH, 8mm
