So, after doing some research at the beginning of the year, i settled on the beyer dt-250's, and promptly ordered a pair with my pocket full of christmas cash...

One of the things that I had read everywhere, is that they not only sounded good, but that they were durable, and good for studio use. Now I dont treat my headphones terrible, and as a matter of fact, this is the only pair I have ever owned (also the "best" most expensive pair) that has broke on me, and now, TWICE!!

so, a few weeks after i recieved themi pulled them out of my bag, and the right earcup is hanging off the headband by the chord that runs through the headband to the left earcup. I called the store that i bought them from, sent them back, waited about 4 weeks, and got a new set in the mail.

Now, a good 4 or 5 months later, i get up to go to work in the morning, wrap the chord around the headphones, and snap. right earcup, hanging by a chord.

now, ive read very good revies of these phones, lasting for a long time, and as i mentioned earlier i dont throw these things at the wall, sit on them, stand on them, smash them, etc.. there is no way that this breakage is not a manufacturing defect..

i contatced a beyer rep, and he said i have to send them to new york to get them serviced (im in seattle).

my question is, will the same things happen to the third set? has any one had this happen? im pretty sure i could do a dandy job of fixing them with a soldering gun and some scrap metal (the piece that broke is the small square of metal that the ear cop pivots side to side off the headband..)

so, the two questions i have are 1, does beyer have fast warranty repair, and 2, even if they do have fast warranty repair, will I have to send these headphones back every couple of months to get them fixed?

invest in some sort of case for them. I cant think of too many headphones that would survive too long just being loosely placed in a bag or backpack. I doubt they just snapped from wrapping the cord around them. I bet there was a hairline crack, pre-damage from being placed in your bag... again.

If you keep placing them unprotected loose in a bag like that its most likely history will repeat.... and repeat again. I have no experience with their repair center. Ive never heard of them being fragile.... I gotta attribute it to user error and not a design flaw.

My DT770 is very durable... the anti-bose.

invest in a protective hard case.

Can't complain about my DT231s either. They may not be the greatest sounding, but sure have very solid build quality, even more so at their price.

Very odd. I owned a DT250-80 for almost two years and it didn't ever break on me, even though I didn't particularly treat it well.
