I hate to appear audibly challenged, but why a "break in" period for headphones? I have owned many over the years and all sounded the same after 6 months as they did they day I got them.

They sound the same?
Probably because when you purchased them at the shop, they had already been used/tested/returned by the previous owner?(In other words, they had been broken in by the previous owner). That is if the shop has return policy.

If not you are not paying attention to the changes in sound. This one is very difficult as when you go along, you get accustomed to the changes automatically so you couldn't remember how it sounded on the first day

I believe in break in as I have 2 beyerdynamic phones which sounded quite abit harsh with little bass and after broken them in they sound mellow and smooth..

I just recieved the Sony MDRV600 and am not pleased at all. According to package tracking I should receive my Senn HD280s tomorrow. I will definately use the break in technique. Thanks for the reply.
