BRANDS / DAP's with dedicated "Line-Out"

Well, for starters, an iPod has a dedicated line-out, you just need to use a cable with a dock connector on one end.

It's called an LOD (line out dock) cable.

Gigabeat F and X series for sure. And like the ipod, you need a dock. Dunno if anyone sells an LOD for the F like they do for ipods, but it's certainly within the realm of easy DIY.

Listening to my F40 through the line-out on it's cradle right now. It's easily on par with the line-out on my iRiver H120. The H3xx series has a real line-out as well.

Most/all of the Sansas that use their own plug (e200, fuze, view). I haven't used any dock accessory, but I've read the level is done digitally, and retains a setting independent of the earphone setting.

What's the difference between between the line-out of the iriver H120 and the optical-out?

Btw, Iriver H120 = Iriver ihp 120, right?

The optical line-out is digital, for an external dac.

And yeah, the ihp-120 was renamed H120 because some other company already had a product called ihp-120. iirc there was never an ihp-140, just the H140. These days, that whole series is usually refered to as the "H100" series.

Archos 5 has line out (also 5.1) when using a dock.
