Balanced was originally designed for long runs of cable to reject noise. This isn't the real reason to do it in daps and most home systems. What was realized is that you get better driver control with the positive and negative drive, which often enhances the sound quality, which is what I have experienced over the years. With many, not all but for me especially the HD 650's, the sound comes alive. There is better transparency, bass control width, depth and often height to the sound stage. This is what balanced can do in a good dap or home system, it isn't really about noise rejection in this case, it is about driver control.

Interesting, but here we are moving beyond my technical knowledge and understanding.
While it is easy to understand how the balanced cables reduce the noise, it's difficult for me to understand how they can have a better driver control.
I think I will have to study a bit...

Update...The AK100ii + Moon Audio Silver Dragon + SE846 with the addition of the Caylin C5 Headphone Amp == A more expanded sound stage,  below 50hz bass throw is phenomenal.  Really makes the 846 a more exciting listen where as with only the AK100ii I found them (846) to be just a little to linear sounding.  Meaning nothing popped.  I initially bought the Caylin for my HE400i's as the AK just wasn't making them sing. Looks like I have a brick to carry now. But damn does it sound good! Happy New Year.

Ak100ii itself should have enough power for SE846, wondering why you need an additional AMP?

The Amp was purchased to run my HE400i's, for which the AK100ii just couldn't satisfy them. I listen to my 846 at least an hour a day. When I ran the Amp with se846 the sound stage and energy was significantly improved, I won't be able to listen without it now because it sounds that GOOD!

Can we expect a balanced-out comparison between 240, 120ii and 100ii? Thanks anyway

I will be getting the moon audio silver cable for my AK100II. Question is, is it a balenced cable or a regular one? And how much has the SQ changed? Thanks
