Brainwavz HM100 and Alara announced

I got a chance to hold and look at a set today, (didn't get to listen long enough to feel inclined to comment on sound). The attachment point that I had remarked about previously is rock solid so I would say my concern was unwarranted. Kudos to Brainwavz as they seem extremely well put together. I hope I can beg, borrow, or steal them from their owner long enough to have some listening notes one day in the near future.

Hm100 arrived. Some quick observations: they're huge! I don't have hm5 with me now but I'd say cups on hm5 end around that silver ring so hm100 is allmost as big as hm5+Wood cups over on top of normal cups.

Sliders look good with engraved numbers but they're loose. No clicks when adjusting. I have to readjust on head because just keep sliding by themselves. When adjusted and worn there is no problems.

Clamps firmly but not as tight as hm5.

About sound... I listened for only like 10 minutes so these are very super early prior burn in impressions. Quite balanced, nice detail, more lifelike(transparent) than most headphones in this price range. Bad thing is sibilance. They're not bright headphones but sibilance is there. It is very annoying.

I'll let these burn in for a while and see if sibilance goes away. If not these go back in the box. I have enough flawed headphones

Some brief early impressions of the HM100. Super comfortable - I wore them for a couple of hours nonstop straight from the box and it felt great. Sound is nice and balanced as @Roderick mentioned. It's quite resolving with plenty of detail and clarity. I didn't notice any sub-bass roll-off but I haven't done any critical listening yet. Will check on that when I get home this evening. So far I like it a lot and I love the provided case and accessories which make it feel like a generous bundle overall.

That's existed for some time. The Brainwavz HM5 is made by Yoga, specifically it is the Yoga CD-880:

It's been sold under other brands as well, such as the NVX Studio and Fischer Audio FA-003. Variations have just been color of the plastic, whether it comes with a second set of earpads, etc. You can see FA-003 measurements here, which apply to the CD-880/HM5 as well:

According to Brainwavz, Alara is on preorder with a 50$ discount. So you can get one for 500$ at the middle of december. Any reviews already?

I'm interested in the Alara but with a cost that high there are going to have to be some reviews first. Lots of competition at that price point so the expectations are plenty high.
