Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

Few days ago headband issue appeared on my PX8 0007 Edition as well. Was using them for almost 2 years. Actually 2 more weeks and 2 years waranty period would be over. I knew about this issue beforehand but was hoping it's very limited and will never happen to me. I was also frequently checking if my headband is ok.
Funny thing is that I wasn't using them for the last 7 weeks and noticed it right after taking headphones out of case. Before I wasn't really using the case at all - so maybe such a long time in a case itself generated some tension to headband, no idea.

I contacted support and they asked me to send headphones back with information that it can take up to 4 weeks for repair... At least shipping was free.
Shipped them on Wednesday and waiting for some good news. Honestly I would prefer money back since it seems to be design flaw.
Small update regarding my broken headband.

I received seems like brand new headphones in sealed box. I was a bit surprised that they still had 007 edition in stock especially that they don't sell this version as new anywhere. Overall I'm very happy about provided support but...
The problem is that even though I received brand new replacement the warranty is not extended, so it will end within 1 week or so. I'm sure that issue will appear on new headset one day as well.

I don't want to be a typical too demanding consumer and I understand that this is very easy 5 minutes fix.
Regarding listening to music I'm a passionate and I very carefully choose my products, especially for the ones I decided to pay a bit more $$$.
In case of these headphones, mainly due to company typical corporate money making approach, I don't feel that unique connection like I expect to have in this price range.
I trully belive that mind and feelings have a huge role in how we experience the music. If you belive in a product / company - it will give you much more pleasure than if you know you are dealing with typical making money product.

I paid full retail price for this headphones - 799 euros. That's a lot of money for what you've got.
Honestly saying, soundwise they are very far from what I expect from good pair of headphones. I think I liked their unique sound profile for the first months but not so much after software update. Craftmenship, overall feeling and materials are great but not so much after experiencing headband issue.
If I knew this beforehand I would never buy them for this price. I would pay a bit more and choose T+A instead which seems to be much more refined product.
Maybe if I pay for them 400 euros I would have completely different expectations.

I also have Sony bluetooth headphones made from plastic that I paid 300 euros, I use for on a gym and they are still working for over 5 years without any issues.

I just have a feeling this is like a tasteless candy wrapped in nice looking paper. At first it looks and costs like a premium, exceptional and refined product but inside it's just designed to sell it to masses with big profit. It's not made for demanding audiophiles looking for good enough quality on the go while being advertised like this.

This is definatelly my first and last B&W product. I think I'm going to sell them now sealed and look for something else.

Well I paid £328 from Amazon Germany this week but would not have paid full sticker price since I only need it for occasional PC use, travelling and late night TV. Was a bit surprised how small they were out of the box and I guess you can pay for more luxurious than this. But multi device use works, as does pause on removal and dialogue all sounded clear enough last night from an AppleTV. Bit cheeky they make you register to use the app though a thumbs up so far.

But I will take your point about my opinion about the bass and keep it to myself going forward. :)

Yeah... NO, please don't! I realize now that my comment was a bit harsh and not funny, and I apologize for that. After all you expressed your preference about bass everytime a new head-fier brought it in discussion. It's just me lurking around here too much that saw that (one) too many times... 😁

Thank you. Appreciate that. But still I take your point as valid. No need to beat people over the head with it.

Hi all, I am considering the Px8, since its features allign well with what I am looking for in a new pair of ANC BT headphones (Comfort, sound quality, call/teams, portability). I have tried the io-8 (to small pads) io-12 (lovely in all aspects, except you cannot control volume while on calls/teams, and they are big...) and momentum 4 (feels a bit to small). However I am a bit afraid of the headband thingy... The country I live in have very good consumer laws, so I am not afraid of getting it fixed if it happens, but reading the last couple of pages of this thread, I am not sure if I want to support B&W since they clearly know of the issue, but even with refreshes of the headphones (new colors etc) they have not fixed it. Am I reading too much into this? Is the issue overblown? should I just go ahead and by them?

Well it is entirely up to you of course. I would rather buy a good headphone that has one minor caveat that could easily be fixed, than buy a headband-snapping Focal, a plastic Sony, an ostentatious Dali or a heavy AirPods Max. But that’s me.

Well a easy fix or not, it is a flaw, and I would probably send it in anyways instead of fixing it myself...

But as you said, the other alternatives do have other flaws, so imo right now the only option seems like the io-12 or Px8 (the h100 or Solitaire T are just to exspensive for my taste...). The airpods max have way to much clamping force for my head, so I eventually sold them as the became unbearable after about an hour on my head. The sonys just feel really cheap and I do not like them, and focal I just find plain ugly xD. I prefer the io-12 sound to the Px8, but I think the Px8 still sound nice enough. The io-12 has suberb comfort for my head, I used them for like 8h the other day without any problems. I have only tried the Px8 for shorter whiles for now, but I will be trying them out for a longer session next week.

Io-12 are super nice but way more expensive and also, for me, too big and bulky to use on the go. I would only use such headphones in the office.

PX8 is a good compromise for me.

At home/home office I use wired open back cans that blow both Io-12 and PX8 out of the water anyway.

Of course again this is subjective. It’s your opinion (however forced that might come across).

Perhaps you have a smaller head and therefore think the Dali are ostentatious? 👀🤷‍♂️🤣
the IO-12 is amazing but for me too big and draws too much attention to use as a travelling can. Same goes for Bathys, ML5909 etc actually. It would stay in my home office where I already have much better and even bigger cans. Google Arya Stealth from my profile, they are not small…

Horses 🐎 and Courses, they all do the same, seems you have a particular issue with the Dali though and that’s your prerogative but you can see from the Dali thread owners absolutely love theirs, so something must be right with them.

Shame that this cannot be said about this thread and the headbandgate woes that plague these headphones. And it is just that a real shame. I loved mine.

No amount of money discounted would
Make me buy another pair, they’d be warranted in months.
I have an rather big head, and on my head I would say the io-12 look okey, but the Px8 looks better, but for me, I really do not care all that much how they look. However the big ass carrying case is very unpractical compared to the other models I am trying out when traveling... Daily commuting, and office work I would say it is no problem using the io-12, but airplane travel etc where you often need space in your carry on, the enormous case is a bit of a overkill... But I still have around 30 days to decide before I need to send them back, so nothing is decided yet! However on sheer practicality the Px8 wins, and a big issue of the io-12 is the non adjustable volume on calls.
