I'm looking for some closed type earphones, like completely closed, not like the Sony MDR-v150 I have. I sort of want something like the Bose Triport. Are there any decent ones under $40? Thanks.

Under $40 the only closed headphone worth buying is the eH150. Haven't heard anything kill it otherwise.

To me the eH150 block out a pretty good amount of noise, anyhow...

I own those Philips, and they are open and don't block out noise, but they sound very good for their price.

And I would avoid the jWIN.

I can't think of any under $40 closed can that sounds good enough to warrant a recommendation.

For the money, you could do worse than these

I know Sony isn't terribly well regarded, but they don't make any serious errors and that's not so bad for a $40 'phone.
They're not circum-aural, but being studio monitors they are completely closed, i.e. no egregious sound leakage.

For the eH150--it blocks out conversation and most home noises a few feet away. You can hear a cellphone ring, but IMO that's it.

If you want the same sound as a Triport (not saying that's a positive for 99% of people on here...but...) in a cheap headphone, get these:

IMO they sound pretty similar to a Bose Triport and they isolate very well.

I didn't really mean sound like a triport. As for sound, I'm not really one to judge. I use my ipod stock phones regularly(the new ones), and I find them to be fine. I just want some 'phones which look good, which the triport ones do very well.

Then go for the eH150 or the aforementioned MDR7502. They are probably the only two closed headphones under $40 that sound halfway decent.

And both look pretty clean-cut to me.

I just looked at these;

The Panasonic RP-HTX7. I'm into the whole simplistic design thing. So, I was planning on going with something like that. Is it completely over the ear. It seemly like it would block as much noise as the Triport. Do you know anything about its sound? I like the simplistic design of the triport, versus the other studio-looking phones.

I think you should browse amazon.com's selection of headphones and list a couple of pairs you like the looks of.
