Well I have been working all week getting out orders, taking 100s of eBay photographs and had three article deadlines with my editors.....so I decided I had to get out and shop.

Now, some of you know I have recently stripped (shredded, defiled, raped...insert word of choice) my system way down to basics. I am now using a new $179 Pioneer 563A multi player as a source (which I love), my old Denon AV2000 as a dedicated headphone amp (it has a fabulous headphone jack) and my ancient Senn 540s. All connected with Outlaws. And I have been enjoying the music.

I really had not planned any new headphone related purchases till fall with the release of the Senn 650s. I was waiting to hear reviews about them and what headamps they will sing best with.

Well....I couldn't take it...the old Senn 540s sound "pretty"...and very detailed ...but just too airy without a real solid bottom.

Soooooooooooo....Went to the city and bought some Senn 590s and Sony MDR 7506s.

I wanted cans that I knew needed low power requirements as I am postponing amp shopping till Fall.

So...here I am...sitting in front of the rig and plugging the 590s and 7506s in right out of the box and they are already blowing away my Senn 540s. It's like sombody turned the lights on.

I have 7 days to decide if I like them....but I have a feeling both these babies are gonna be swallowing my ears whole after 100 hours of burn-in. I'm leaning towards keeping them already with 20 mins on em

I will audition them with the Denon, my Archos 20 Jukebox, Pioneer Dolby Headphone processor and the Panasonic portable DVD player and report findings if anybody is interested. I know both these cans are old news to most here....but its new territory for me.

I had the V6s for many years but when I first joined up here at Head-Fi...they sounded too bright to me with all the new toys I was listening to. Now...six months later...I guess my ears have changed in what pleases them cause the 7506s are bright and detailed...but I love the sound...go figure....and these supposedly bright 590s sound like sweet honey to me.

You are so right...it's like the detox lasted two weeks and today the dam broke and I went running to the audio store like a crazed junkie.

Same deal as both of you.

Sold the V6's. Played around with a few others. Bought V6's again.

My first thought when I read the thread title was poor John. He's at it again. But after reading I was pleased to hear about the cans you got and how muhc you liked them. I still have a pair of V6s sitting around that I listen to every now and again. Good cans if not a little uncomfortable.

Are you related to LouTucci by chance?

With the speed at which we both recycle gear...we were no doubt seperated at birth

I would then be some second cousin or some such thing judging from the rate at which I went thru gear for about 6 months. It's easier to settle down when you live some 3000 miles from the states and can't get stuff sent to you.

Well, now you gotta post some kind of review there John. I haven't seen that one before and we're always wanting to hear about some new products.

Waiting for a review of that!

Thanks blessingx....don't know why it stopped working...so I changed it to a link to the discussion thread about this amp.

OK...I have been burning in the Senn 590s and Sony MDR7506s for 100 plus hours. Non-stop CDs or DVDs have kept the new kids thumping a bit above normal listen levels (behind pillows at night).

It only took about 75 hours for me to start to really like what I was hearing with the Senn590s. To my ears they seem to bring together the qualities I liked most in the Senn600s and Sony CD3Ks...they have the deep, solid and articulate bass, a warm and lush midrange (with no "veil") and a clear and sweet (but not harsh or shrill) highs. All this plus a strong sense of realism and soundstage that I get from the CD3Ks and the musical lushness of the Senn600s.

I think these Senn590s might be a bit underappreciated in our hobby. I know they have their fans, but for their price and performance, I'm suprised I don't hear more about them. Perhaps it's the plastic build quality to them. But they sure are light and comfy.

I prefer their overall sound to the Senn600s I had with stock or the Cardas. And those were played through a Corda HA-2 and Philips 963SA. I am listening to the Senn 590s amped by my Denon AV2000 Receiver and using the $179 Pioneer 563 player as my source and getting this sound from the 590s.

I can only hope that when the Perreaux headamp arrives this week that it will build on what I am liking about these phones. Last night I put on the soundtrack of Band of Brothers and was absolutely transported and swimming around in the music between instruments. It was a real thrill.

So I headed off to bed and decided to try the Sony MDR 7506s with my portable DVD player and the Bruce Springsteen Live in NYC Concert DVD just to see if the wailing guitars on that DVD might be a deal breaker for the Sonys as portable use for me.

Well, three hours and two discs later I still had those darn Sonys plopped on my head. The clarity of the individual band members musical lines and vocals was amazing. Bass was defined, punchy and tight and very musical. The highs were sweet with the guitars sounding amazing. I switched off with my Porta Pros every once in a while and it was like I had just put a bit of cotton in my ears.

As I write this, the Sonys have been plugged into my Sony Vaio...playing various CDs and MP3s....talk about Sony synergy...this is serious gear courtship going on here.

Final decisions are still to come after some more living room, Perreaux, bedtime and portable tests...but it looks like I may be keeping both these sets of phones as of the 100 hour mark.
