Alright before i was willing to spend up to around 200 for an ampless set of earphones.

Ive decided to take 200 out of my laptop funds (which i think i may regret later lol) but anyways. i guess a good traveling amp is around 100?

my question is what headphones are now good for around 300?

i can get the akg k701 for 300 on amazon, and the dt880 and 770. but i wanted to yet again get confirmation since im new to headphones.

and what are fatpipes lol.

any other suggestions are welcome. this is going to pretty much be fore home, on the go and everything (cept for excersie where ill have a Koss KSC 75). so if thats a factor. but i really want circumaural ones. i dont know why lol, but i guess its because i think they're cool. lol, and ear canal headphones hurt my ears, or the ones ive used so far at least.

If you're using them "on the go", HD600s might not be a great choice...they're open and won't give you any isolation from outside noise. I guess it depends what you mean by "on the go".

Which in-ear phones have you used? Some are decidedly less comfortable than others -- if your experience is with Koss Plugs or whatever, then you might want to check out some higher-end ones: Shure E500s are right in your price range, sound great, and with foamies, are incredibly comfortable. I've heard that SuperFi.5s are even comfier. For portable phones, I think IEMs are really the way to go...I've done IEMs, earbuds, supra-aurals, and circumaurals, and IEMs are just ridiculously more portable and sound much better in portable environments (since they block out so much outside noise...obviously there are circumaurals which sound even better, but if you can hear every word of the conversation next to you, or the sound of the bus' engine, it doesn't matter how much detail they can produce).

Edit: I missed that you have KSC-75s. Those make pretty good on-the-go phones (although my vote still goes to IEMs for supreme portable overlords), so maybe spending the money on good home phones would be more appropriate. In which case, I rescind my comment about HD600s.

The senn & the akg phones are both open so they wont be that good for travelling.
Open phones provide no noise isolation to speak of. Also due to this the outside world will not remain outside your phones, sounds will interfere with your listening & is very annoying.
Just a heads up.

I listen to alot of organ music so open headphones don't bother me so much. Like the 650, I often use them outside.

I always liked the design of the Ultrasone Proline 750. It's too bad its sound signature and soundstage isn't suited for me (incorrect fit?) . They'd be perfect for your application since they're closed, portable, circumural, and easier to drive. I guess you'd have to try them out yourself since it's a general consensus that it's a hit-and-miss preference with Ultrasone headphones.

Yeah! Organ music! For that I use my HD600 with a special history of organ music production. Fabulous for Cathedral sized instruments! And MS2i which does a surprisingly good job with Organs in smaller venues where you get closer in and the pipes are a lot smaller too!

Look to get Musican's Friend to match the price of $244 from Northern Sound. You can return them to Musician's Friend if you do not like them.

Senn HD600 with an a quality amp.

I am leaning toward the Senn's over the AKG 701 due to the more full bass of the Senn and smooth sound. The Senn's are easier to drive and can get along with a wider selection of amps.

+1 vote for the K701. Ive heard them with a ~$100 pint and they sound surprisingly good, when paired with the right source. IMHO much better than the HD580/600 out of the same amp.

For a 100$ amp maybe you should stick with the more efficient Grado prestige Line. Let's say SR-225 and you still have 100$ in your pocket for better laptop.
