Hey everyone, I'm in search of a pair of bookshelf speakers (for primarily vinyl listening) that will double as studio monitors for recording/mixing music. I currently have a pair of Wharfedale Evo2-8's, but while they sound great I don't think they're neutral enough to do the trick.
 
My turntable is a Denon DP-300F and my amp is a Music Hall A15.3. Is there a speaker that will pair well with these that are also accurate/neutral enough on their own for production purposes? My budget is <$500.
 
They would be for use in a fairly small untreated bedroom. I listen to indie rock, folk, dream pop, and occasionally some punk/hardcore. The stuff I'll be recording will probably be guitar/vocals-centered.

So you'll have to look for speakers that have had anechoic frequency response measurements. So, for example, Stereophile measured the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1s. You'll see why they have a reputation for being warmer speakers with that upper midbass bump: http://www.stereophile.com/content/wharfedale-diamond-101-loudspeaker-measurements.

Here are my speakers, Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SEs, which measure fairly linear down to about 80hz: http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/cmt340m/cmt340mmeas.html. Now, if you want to get good lower bass extension, you would need a sub.

Perhaps what you need for production / mixing purposes isn't a 'neutral' sound at all, e.g. the Yamaha NS-10 (as mentioned in the SOS article).

For smaller powered speakers, I have read good things about Behringer speakers and more recently JBL powered speakers.
