Bono and Bob Geldolf are nominees for 2006
Nobel Prize, in recognition of their continuing
efforts to cancel third world debt. This is the
second year in a row that the U2 frontman has been nominated.
Bono also received Chile's highest honour for the arts, the Neruda Award,
in Feb. 26. That same day, U2 and manager Paul McGuinness were awarded
Amnesty International's 2005 Ambassador of Conscience award.

He deserves it, and it would be great to see him receive it!

Anyway, I am not the hugest fan of the musical part of Bono, but damned if he is not doing more to illuminate the horrors that go on in Africa than almost any other public figure. For that, he had better get one.

Live 8 was a scam. Sure they'll cancel $40 billion over 10 years for sub-African debt, but the debt they owe is $230 billion total. Think of the interest the banks make on that.

Not to mention, the African people had no decision in taking on the debt. It's like hey poor people we'll cancel the debt you owe us, now do you want some more loans. Sorry to disagree, but I don't think he deserves it.

I don't like you. Plus you said that you'd see any other band 100 times rather than the Rolling Stones once.

I love it: "I don't like you. Plus you said ....!!!"

By the way there are 199 nominees and G.W. Bush did not make it to the
'Sweet 200'!. Keep in mind that he didn't make it fifth or sixth time in a row!
Ha, ha, ha, ...

This second nomination of Bono, tells me that might get knighted one day,
and become Sir Bono, as some people said on the other thread (of mine),
"Sir Paul McArtney, Sir Mick Jagger, ... Who's Next?".

Bossman Bono is a Dub and a Son of the Irish Republic. For the Southern Irish, you have to be an arrant pudknocker -- Like Sir Bob Geldof, Viscount de Blackrock College -- to take the Crown's ennoblement. Having said that, I think Lizzy II wouldn't mind slipping old Bono the tongue. Really, he can't in all conscience demur -- he gave it to the Pope.

Not sure why it is surprising or even worth mentioning that a man who decided to start several wars didn't get a nomination.

As for Bono, I give him a little credit for doing some good, but he is clearly still interested in his own ego when approaching these world leaders. Why else would he still wear those damn rock star sunglasses when meeting Nelson Mandela?
