i know different blu ray players come with all sorts of varying features

however, if i get a blu ray drive [internal or ext] does it matter what i get? [ie, does the computer do ALL the work?]

Yep, pretty much. The only think that would make a difference is the software you use to decode the bluray.

I have a bluray media center PC but I came across a dvd that didn't play. It's the Terminator 2 Skynet edition. It loads up successfully maybe 1/20 times. Too bad since it's one of my favorite movies.

I'm using Powerdvd BD edition, 7.2 I believe. I got it free with my blu ray drive so I don't mind buying software.

You'll need, in addition to the drive:
  1. Blu-ray software (PowerDVD, WinDVD) - some drives include this
  2. A monitor that supports HDCP
  3. A graphics card that supports HDCP

No HDCP = no or downscaled picture. I had to replace my old Dell 2005fpw because it didn't have HDCP.
