I'm looking (without much success) for a bluetooth audio receiver that has optical out so I can plug my dac into it. Basically just a small box that sits near my amp that will pick up wireless output from my pc's default audio out and send it to my dac. It needs to be universal and get all audio from whatever source from my pc, anything that would normally go to my pc speakers.

So far I haven't been able to find anything that does this seemingly simple task. Devices like Squeezebox and Airport express are still pretty specific and limited as to what they do.

Any ideas?

Not seen anything like that at this point. I know that bluetooth has trouble with stereo data (limited bandwidth) Not sure if there enough bandwidth for a device like that. The WiFi stuff is the only wireless SPDIF carriers that I know of, or have seen discussed here.

Wireless USB coming I have read, might replace bluetooth, perhaps your fix will be with this new (and yet undeveloped) standard.

Bluetooth is designed for low bandwidth applications at close range. For the distances that bluetooth is effective, it is significantly cheaper and easier to run a wired connection (optical/coax or plain jane RCA) to your DAC/stereo.

Additionally, the bandwidth limitations of bluetooth mean that it is barely (if at all) capable of keeping up with a stereo PCM data stream. It'd be far too easy for a couple dropped packets caused by interference (bluetooth is on the 2.4Ghz band) to cause audio drop outs.
