    Back in the way back (the 90s!) I used to love copying vinyl onto cassettes (Maxell XLII) and I'm absolutely sure the cassette sounded 'worse' than the vinyl, but sure didn't I prefer that 'worse' sound?

    The same is true of most everything with moving parts. It's a moving target. Things degrade.

    Of course none of us seem to use the same gear long enough to really experience THAT anymore.

    Mine were normal and then right side started to be quieter.

    To confuse things more, there is ‘phase shifting’, not to be confused with out of phase, out of polarity, inverted polarity, etc:
