Her eis the deal .I am getting a brand new 8800 for $350.Quite or rather very cheap around these places. But here is the cath the seller told me it cannot be configured for the local vodafone network. What ever he meant but I assumed the phone is unlocked.

So in case If I was to buy it is it possible for me to unlock it and use it with the local vodafone network.

Ok one more thing he said I could use it wiht any network just as a phone not the blackberry function ...Now thats got me thinking if it was locked I should not be able to use it on any network even just as a phone right?

well in order to use the "blackberry functions" such as email or internet, you will need to subscribe to the network's data plan. the phone plan is only good for phone calls... i'm not familiar with the vodaphone network, but for the main carriers, that's what you need to get.
