Of course, don't forget to remove the grille BEFORE painting...

Use something that won't clog or you'll spend hours poking out each individual hole on the entire front of each speaker.

Boston Acoustics makes some. The models with aluminum tweeters (VR) tend toward a bit of brightness, but that makes them great for home theater, and you may find that you like what they do to music as well.
