The ELPJ plays LPs and 45s with no vinyl damge and there is a 3000 dollar discount on this. ANy takers? I would except it's slightly more than I can afford.

That system is exorbantly expensive...even with the $3000 discount...you're still looking at a $15-25k turnable with laser pickup...

True. I read a review on this player by Sterophile, and though they really enjoyed the player, they had an issue with the player picking up EVERY thing on the record. It would pick up dust particles, and anything else on your vinyl. It works great with scratched vinyls!! They were very sucessful in retrieving sound from records that have been scratched. Their conclusion was that though it played well, the sound just wasn't as nice as the old school pick. The ELPJs were good for archiving records...not as much as hi-fidelity.

Anyone wanna get one so we can all sample it?

Don't worry about it lostlamb, the set is all packed and just waiting for paypal to come through.

I still say this is an ingenious way of reading records. Yea, the laser pickup maybe too sensitive, but you can write some software to smooth out these ultra fine details.

Wish I had $25,000 to try this one out, alas it would take someone with a far fatter wallet than I to try this baby out.

What do you mean, write some software? The ELP laser turntable is *analog*, not digital. There's nothing digital in the signal path whatsoever. Aside from using a laser rather than a needle, it's a record player.
