I live in the midrange!
OK, here's one that I missed the first time around...probably because they sounded too much like a rap group. I'm talking about Mick Jones' post-Clash hobby, Big Audio Dynamite.

I'm listening to them on Yahoo! Music as I type this, and I'm digging on it for sure.

Anyone else fans??

I was into them way back when. I have one or two LPs and they are still fun for parties. Good reminder though, I might have to see if they are on Rhapsody tomorrow.

I enjoyed the first 3 albums when they were new, had them on cassette, never made it to CD for me.

Oh my - a blast from the past. They were ahead of there time and under-rated IMO. My favorite was "No. 10 Upping St" which I should probably track down.

Had BAD II for quite a while, and loved it. Great sound, very Clash-esque, and was easy to like. Gave the CD to nanahachi recently, and he's been enjoying it for a while now.

I went home and looked up BAD on Rhapsody. Listening to "Limbo the Law" right now.

I never made it past No. 10 Upping Street, but those first two records got a lot of play back in the day. For a long time in 1985/86, my answering machine had the sample from The Good The Bad and The Ugly that is in the middle of Medicine Show. Made for a great greeting. Here's the text:

Wanted in 14 counties of this state...the condemned is found guilty of the crimes of murder, armed robbery of citizens, state banks, and post offices...the theft of sacred objects, arson in a state prison...perjury, bigamy, deserting his wife and children...inciting prostitution, kidnapping, extortion...receiving stolen goods, selling stolen goods...passing counterfeit money,... and contrary to the laws of this state, the condemned is guilty of using marked cards. Therefore, according to the powers vested in us, we sentence the accused here before us...Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez...known as the "Rat"...and any other aliases he might have...to hang by the neck until dead. May God have mercy on his soul. Proceed!

Thanks to this thread (cheers elrod-tom), I picked up BAD's first album again on CD (I only had the cassette when this was new). While it no longer sounds a tenth as radical as it did at the time (so many of the ideas presented here are now such total cliches, but that's how it goes), but the real surprise for me is how well it stands up. If it didn't deliver great songs, all the then hi-tech trickery (tape-loops galore/smapled movie dialogue-- now that's just ancient technology in the age of Pro-Tools

) would just fall flat. Fun, nostalgic stuff for me. I'll be checking out their other early albums shortly.

The song "V Thirteen" was a real anthem for me back in the day...

Definitely check out the song "james brown" which is on Megatop Phoenix. No their best album, but by far my favorite BAD song.

Also 2000 shoes (about imelda marcos) on Tighten Up Vol 88. is both funny and catchy
