Maybe if a lot of people write scathing reviews of some rare PCDPs prices will go down. Hmm...it's probably too late, the damage has been done

Everyone thinks they're the best thing since sliced pineapple.

Yeah all the Sony pcdp's are horrible! Don't buy them!

Ok there, did my bit to bring prices down but somehow I don't think it worked.

But that's all I mean - we do have an impact on the market of these things. Since they are discontinued it would be nice if there was an honor system here about acquiring 20 of the same thing. But if the headfiers that frequent ebay see no problem with it, then that's that.

So please, just because someone has a differing opinion and voices it, you don't have to attack, or tread on the borderline of making it personal. I know this site is a site mainly for men, but really the aggression level doesn't need to be so high.

Let's not forget that often acquiring a legendary player has nothing to do with top dollar. I found my D-515 on Ebay, listed in French simply under "Sony Discman ESP." No where in the item description was there a mention that the player was a D-515. I have found some of my players under similar circumstance where others failed to look. It's this dedication that has enabled me to get more at lower than market prices. Deep pockets really has nothing to do with it. If there is someone else out there that devotes the same energy to collecting and is able to find the same "deals" then it comes down to who is willing to bid more. Often times it's me, Gojira, PeterR, Duncan, Purk (although I haven't seen much activity from Purk lately), and I have been seeing Cscott popping up more now (did I leave someone out?). Or it's the infamous 50th-state, a true collector who buys legendary pcdps as well as legendary walkmans (and pays top dollar).

Just my 2 cents.....

Oh yes, you certainly have to dedicate yourself if you want a deal or a rare model. Back when I was in the market I would look at all the discman auctions under all possible model variations and mispellings of discman (the D-311 I bought was listed as a "diskman") because many sellers don't know what they have and don't properly label the auctions. Or label them at all like in your D-515 auction, Pappucho. There's a measure of luck to it too. The ones listed by people who do know what they have and are labeled properly and plugged all over Head-Fi are definitely about who can come up with the most coin though.
