Hi!

I'm going to be testing out some vintage equipment. An H/K receiver and a Rotel amp. Also, a Dual turntable (model: 515) and BIC turntable (model: 680).

Which of the two turntables do you recommend?

Thanks

This would probably have been better posted in the Dedicated Source forum.

Vintage HK receivers can be good. The tuner part usually needs an alignment and can have burnt out lights. Vintage Rotel amps can be very good. The pots usually need de-oxidizing and can be wonky (especially the input selector switches). I'd lean to the Rotel if you have a choice.

I'm not familiar with a BIC 680, but none of the BICs have a good reputation. Their best series was the 900 series. They were budget tables when they were new and lots of things go wrong with them over time. The motor was actually decent and there are still spare parts available for them.

The Dual 515 is an ok budget starter table. A little bass light and sterile. The platter rings like a bell. I wouldn't pay a lot for it since they can be found for $50.-$60. in very good condition with the original ULM65e phono cartridge (a decent Ortofon model).

This seller also has a Technics table, a Pioneer, and a Pyramid. Maybe I'll test those out too.

All his equipment has been cleaned up, detailed and guaranteed to work.
