BGVP discussion thread DM7/ DM6/DMG and NEW BA series
Jan 1, 2019 at 7:28 PM Post #1,066 of 5,353
Guys, need help deciding between this and ER3SR. I had Etymotic HF5 few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the sound signature once I got used to the sound signature. However, my priority right now (more so than the familiar sound signature) is value for money because I will probably won't buy an upgrade for a foreseeable future. I have been trying to find comparisons for a couple of days now but couldn't find anything that. Sound signature shouldn't be much of an issue. If anything, 2nd most important deciding factor for me is the warranty (or durability). I know, these haven't been out for more than a few weeks but any info in terms of their durability or ruggedness is appreciated. Also, here in Canada, White version is available for slightly cheaper price and I'm wondering if they look as bad as they look in the one picture that amazon has. Unable to find a picture of white DM6 after doing a cursory Google Image search.

Edit:
Adding @chinmie - Hey Chinmie, I see that you have you both ER and DM6. Could you please elaborate more on the differences?

Found it! Doesn't look half as bad the fact that it is cheaper and is readily available on Amazon is a major plus. I wish the pic was of a in hand or on ear shot. Let's see if anyone can post that.

Edit:
@dudiadudia1 - Hey could you please post a picture of your white DM6 while wearing it or in your palm? I just want to get a perspective of how it looks against the skin.

can't really compare them because the sound sigs are really different. ER4XR has a "cold" tipe of sound, lesser bass amount, thin sounding mids, more bite on the treble. it's also has a more intimate soundstage (closer to the musician)

the DM6 is warmer and more forgiving/musical, meaning if you want to enjoy the music and not wanting to dissect and analyze the song, this is more suitable.

out of my surviving iems (the ones that i'm keeping) i would rate from warmer and musical to the colder and analytical:

DM6 - B5+ - Kanas - EM2 - ER4XR - ER4PT

i also have EDC3 that would fit between the DM6 and B5, but I'm keeping it off the list because I'm considering of selling it..not using it enough.to love it

it may take some time to ship the white ones though if they don't have that color on stock, i suggest you order long before the Chinese New Year which is around early February if I'm not mistaken

H-Duby Store (now Yi -Tongs 3C) just told me they have in stock the DM6 in the following colors:

Marine Blue (Ocean) ,Emerald ,Ivory and Obsidian Black.

So if you ordered from them the Clear version and don't really want to wait anymore, you can switch to one of the colors above and they'll send you the package immediately.

I've only got 2 albums in so far (Sophie's Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides and PRODUCT), but these sound great. Coming from my venerable SE530s (and even in a pretty distracting environment), the bass and midbass are immediately significantly more impactful, and the treble extension is clearly superior. I feel like the soundstage is comparable—maybe a little smaller?—but it'll take some time to sort this all out.

(Edit: Sufjan's No Shade in the Shadow of The Cross sounds so personal--wow.)

(Edit again: Daughters' You Won't Get What You Want really came alive. It's still a "challenging" listen, but it didn't feel drone-y like it did on my 530s. The percussion hit so hard, the vocals were much clearer, and the distorted guitars felt much more purposeful. Awesome!)

(Detail retrieval is excellent right off the bat in Death Grips' Bottomless Pit. In just the opening few seconds of the opening track, the aspiration of the guest vocalist's "p"s against the mic is audible, and small details in the guitar riff and blast beats are brought forward very impressively. The speed of the response in Hot Head is noticeable, as is the vertical spatial resolution of the cymbal hits... hearing things I don't remember hearing in Ring a Bell, and I take back my comment about the soundstage possibly not being as large as on the 530s.)

I ordered the wide-bore Symbio tips, and at first was worried that they were too large—they went on and off the nozzles quite easily. It looks like that's just how things fit on these nozzles, though. At first, I couldn't get a proper seal because I put the tips quite far back onto the nozzles, but because the DM6s are significantly larger than the SE530s, they sit much more in the outer ear with the nozzles and tips extending into the ear canal. Since I got a good seal, they've been amazing. (The medium symbios are a little fatiguing, but I may just have to get used to them. If not, I'll try the smalls!)

Here are a few more pictures:

Would you happen to have a link? A friend might want to buy these on my recommendation but I couldn't find this listing via Google (the troubles of searching in English, I guess).
