Hi,

I own an old pair of Sony MDR-V900 (I bought 15 years ago, when they were my only option). I'm quite happy with them, but now that I have best speakers than when I bought them, they sound lot worst than my pair of speakers.

I've compared them with Senns HD600, and I didn't find really a great improvement: bigger soundstage, clearer highs, but less bass, and the Senns are open, and I do really need closed cans.

Now I'm after a pair of Beyers DT770 Pro - 80, but I cannot try them before I'm deciding buy them, so I'd like to know your opinion about these cans compared to my old Sonys (95% of my listenings are trance and hard-trance).

Thanks,
Chompy

ouch... be prepared for the wrath of HD600 owners... hehe...

anyway... sounds that you are a heavy basshead... so i gues that DT770 is the way to go then... i dont own them... ask people around here what equipment is that DT770 better to be teamed with...

I have heard both cans. They are both quite bassy, however there is a MAJOR difference in the nature of the bass. The Sony is slow, muddy, and boring. It tuns the bass of practically any song into a gigantic mudball the hides quite a bit of the mids and highs which are actually quite nice, when there is no bass in a song. The DT770 is the opposite, huge bass, but fast and punchy, and the bass on the 80ohm version doesn't veil the mids or highs very much at all. The Beyers are more comfortable, thanks to the soft pads. Soundstage is also better on the Beyers. If you like the bass-heaviness of the Sony, then the Beyer is a natural upgrade, and the quality upgrade of the bass should blow you away.

I tried the DT770s just yesterday actually. The mids are lacking, but I found the highs to be great. Bass is pumping but my biggest complaint is that they were extremely UNCOMFORTABLE on my head. Pretty sure I'd get fatigued after 30 mins without question.

Hope that helps..
