Someone I know claims he has a PRO version of DT770 @ 600OHM which he wants to sell me. he even pictured it to me. it is 770 PRO by the look of it.
Now I know there is no PRO version of 600OHM for 770.
but he said that he bought those 6 years ago.

WAS there a DT770 PRO 600OHM?
Also, do you think buying used 6 years old headphones is smart?

Yes, there once was a 600Ohm version of the DT770. With Beyerdynamic tradition the spare parts are still available, e.g. the driver units:

I think a high quality headphone can be used much more than 6 years. Backed by availability of spare parts it should not pose a problem. I'd get new pads right away though, they get flat over the years (like every pair of pads does).

Thank you!
Spare parts are always available - but what if things you just can't fix happens? like, say- one driver broke?

I guess you can purchase drivers only pairwise... but thats about the only problem. Drivers, headband, cushion, pads, cups, cables are all readily available.

The really old DT770 model:

the newer PRO:

It feels a bit stupid to ask, but just in case- does the sound of headphones wears away after so many years...?

As far as I know from talking to engineers the driver does wear off a bit over the years and will break at some time. I don't think thats very relevant, except maybe when the headphone is not stored properly (i.e. in sunlight or a too humid place, or mistreated by overloading etc.), which will lead to early failure. Otherwise six years should not be a problem.
