Good day!

Newbie here, and I just purchased my first set of higher-end cans. Previosuly had the Sony wrap arounds from a few years ago, so expecting quite a difference!

So I've read that these cans definitely requires an amp.. and was wondering what others would suggest?

Basically, I'm using these to listen at work to a variety of music, but mostly electronica to help make the day easier to go by. Not looking to go crazy here and spend $$$, just get what's needed to make them sound right.

Thanks,
G

Hi,

Congratulations on your purchase. The DT770 250 ohm version imo is better than the 80 ohm version in the treble regions.

It will sound better with an amp and there will be many recommendations if you have a look around this site. (Everyone has their own preferences)

I even use it portable, (well, in the garden) with a Go-Vibe fitted with op amp AD8066. It works extremely well.

I had great luck with the supermacro v1 with AD604 opamps with the DT770s. The best synergy I experienced with the DT770s was (post recabling with blackmax and "woodying" via headphile.com) with the blueberry audio emotion+. That's a 627 biased to class A and worked REALLY well with the 770s, tho wasn't portable at all.

Not necessarily looking to go portable, but whatever is functional really and gets the job done and easier on the wallet.

Source.. haha. Forgot to mention that these are for work. Just going to be running them directly from my PC. Not even sure the soundcard on it, but it's an IBM Machine, about a year old. Space is somwhat limited on the desk but there's enough room if I extend the cables.

Anything elese that I'd require??

I actually have this same question about the 770-250, except I already have the amp, and was wondering if it would be powerful enough...

My source is an M-Audio Revo 7.1, and the amp is a OPA2227-based (dual?) cMoy

For the pc, just get an amp and plug it into your headphone out. Then later, get a microdac or apogee minidac and use that via usb. No stress. You'll occassionally hear hard drive spinup or power noise, but in general your listening experience will be pleasurable.

Rechargeables work fine.

If you want to plug in, at about the same pricing level is the Pocket Amp 2. That can be plugged in.

Go-Vibe 2 = $69. Go-Vibe 3 = $89. Pocket Amp $60.

From what I hear, the Go-Vibe 2 and 3 are similar sounding but the 3 is in a metal box rather than plastic.

All three sound good.

Thanks for the tips guys!

I decided to go with the Pocket Amp 2. Hadn't read your suggestion to contact norm re: AC adapter, but am quite happy with my choice.

Can't wait to test it out, and burn them in!!
