Beyerdynamics DT990s rattle with high bass

I just got a set of Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250 ohm headphones, which I am pairing with a Fiio E17. They are quite excellent headphones overall; however, when I listen to songs with heavy bass (e.g. The XX "Fantasy" at 1:21) the headphones make an awful rattling noise that indicates to me that they can't really handle such heavy bass. I also have Sony XB-5000s and those of course handle the bass beautifully.
 
So I'm wondering, is this to be expected from the 990s? If not, do I have a faulty pair of headphones? Or I just need to let them "break in" for a while?
